Personnel Avoidance System

The Personnel Avoidance System (PAS) is a transponder tag which warns personnel of vehicles within close proximity by means of a flashing light and buzzer on a cap lamp. The number of flashes, which is limited to five, indicates the number of vehicles in a person's vicinity. The detecting range can be set according to clients requirements. Its compact design (55mm x 25mm) currently makes it the smallest active tag reader in the world.

A recent development is the integrated CAS Camera system. With driver visibility restrictions experienced in larger open pit type vehicles, this system allows operators a visual confirmation indicating direction of possible interactions with either personnel or other vehicles. Additionally, this system gives a visual aid through showing the camera coverage from the specific sector around the vehicle. The system usually comprises four cameras and integrated antennas around the vehicle to cover the front, rear, left and right blind spots the driver experiences. The company has also completed an intelligent robot system, together with comprehensive philosophy, to facilitate robot control as well as vehicle and personnel positioning. Two versions have been developed:

  • A stand-alone model using standard PLC technology and SCADA packages
  • An intelligent control and monitoring system using an extensive asset and personnel tracking system (CATS) software package
